Why Should Every Superhero Have A Love Interest?

Many famous superheroes have love interests that keeps the storyline going and adds more drama to an action movie. For example:
  • Love makes the story more appealing to the viewers.
  • Adds drama to an otherwise serious action - packed movie.
  • Makes the story emotional through loss and regret.
  • Sometimes causes separation between characters and creates a gap in the storyline.
Examples of these elements in movies are:

  • Amazing Spider - Man 2
    • More emotional because Peter Parker lost his love Gwen.
  • Man of Steel (Superman)
    • Clark Kent had a love interest for Louis Lane. This adds drama to the otherwise action - packed movie.
  • Thor (The first movie)
    • Thor gets banished from his home world and starts liking this human, which created controversy between the characters in the movie.
  • Enthiran (Robot)
    • This movie has an artificial intelligent robot who likes a human girl. This also causes separation between the humans and the robots.
  • Deadpool

    • This antihero likes a girl, but has a type of cancer. Wade Wilson gets a surgery done which makes him heal any part of his body. This also makes him very evil, but the only thing he wants to protect is his girlfriend. This causes separation because Wade does not want to go back with her due to what the surgery did to him.
Why does this matter?

All these examples provide a more detailed and emotional rollercoaster that every viewer has to go through to finish the movie. They also help the movie get more money and viewers.

  1. Excellent idea for this blog post! Do you think that love interests make the superhero more human, and help the audience feel a human connection with these superheroes because of this shared experience? Something to think about :)
