Testing Tips By Austin R and Nolan D

Testing Tips
We’re nearing the end of the year with many tests coming up, which means it’s time to start preparing. Here are 5 good tips you can use while studying and preparing for these tests.

  • Study- Always study especially before big tests. Some study tips are to avoid cramming and rereading. These techniques are not always the best way to remember things and do not allow your brain to store the information long term. Methods such as teaching others and spacing out studying times allow your brain to have enough time to store the information long term and remember it better. Remember to take breaks to allow yourself to calm down and always get ample amounts of sleep and a good breakfast before tests.

  • Planning- Besides tests we also have many essays, some of which may be timed. Remember to take your time and always plan before these essays to keep yourself on track and remember any ideas you may want to include later.

  • Avoid Stress- Stress can play a big part in your performance on tests, so remember to stay calm and focused on what you need to accomplish rather than whether or not you will do good. Some people like to meditate or take brain breaks throughout their tests to get them back on track.

  • Take Care of Yourself- Self-care is very important when it comes to performance. Say you are up late the night before an important test, during the test you may become drowsy and not able to focus. A good diet and exercise allow your body to have enough energy and frees the mind from other potential distractions.

  • Take your time- Although many tests are timed, you normally get around an hour or two to test. Use this time wisely and don’t rush yourself just to get it over with. One way to make sure you have enough time is to pace yourself. A great way to do this is to do the hardest part first. If you have an essay you may want to start by doing it first rather than taking too much time on multiple choice and not giving yourself enough time for your essay.

We hope you use these tips next time you are preparing for a test or essay. You can use these tips and others to improve yourself and your grades in the future. If you have any tips or strategies of your own please share them with us in the comments below. :)
