- Nick: Nick Carraway, the narrator of The Great Gatsby, who was Gatsby’s only genuine friend. Although he showed signs of being mental to get rid of that state of mind, he journals his thoughts. Nick is the most trustworthy person in the book, any secret that was told to him he kept it even if it was hurting someone. Tom Buchanan tells Nick he’s having an affair with a mistress in New York, this is hurting his cousin Daisy but he doesn't tell a soul.
- Gatsby: James Gatz, otherwise known as Jay Gatsby, started off poor in North Dakota and eventually was in the high social status of New York. Gatsby is the protagonist of the novel and is standing tall by interfering in activities that were against the law. The only reason Gatsby wanted all of this class was due to the fact he was in love for 5 years over a woman named Daisy Buchanan. He seems to be blinded by the American Dream, wanting a perfect life with a perfect girl and everything perfect around him overall.
- Daisy: Daisy Buchanan has a voice full of money. All she cares about how much money she has, and all the nice stuff she has. She’s a materialistic person. She only married Tom for the money, she didn’t love him, she loved Gatsby, but since Gatsby didn’t have as much money as Tom, she didn’t want to marry him. I personally don't like Daisy or how she lives her way in life, I feel nobody should be used for their money, she doesn't love Tom she loves the idea of the money. Daisy is the worst character in The Great Gatsby in my opinion.
- Tom: Tom Buchanan inherited all of his wealth from his family and lives without a care in the world, not being afraid of being caught by his wrongdoings. For example, he cheats on his wife, Daisy Buchanan, with another woman named Myrtle, who is also married, and buys her gifts and has a special apartment rented for their affair. Besides that, Tom also is very short tempered and drinks aggressively; he has hit Myrtle and broke her nose, and continuously deceived Daisy not caring how it would affect her until he figures out about her affair.
- Jordan: Jordan Baker, an extremely cynical person, with an icy demeanor. I actually like Jordan, her attitude reminds me of myself. She is a character that speaks her truth and doesn't care what others think of her. She might be a bit mean but at least she can own up to it. Jordan also is the love interest of the narrator. The only thing I don't like about her is how reckless she is and how much she doesn't care about it. Jordan is my favorite character in this book.
- Myrtle: Myrtle Wilson lives in the city of ashes with her husband George Wilson who is a car mechanic. She desperately wants out of this situation of being poor with her husband and wants to be rich with Tom and his wealth. Unknowingly she loves him but he only wants her for his own pleasure. She dies in a “car accident” where a yellow car runs her down, she thought that Tom was driving the car and would stop to take her away, but it turns he wasn't and died.
- Wilson: George Wilson, husband to Myrtle Wilson. Wilson is the character I feel off about, I knew he wasn’t really the best character. He seems kind of sketchy and when he killed Gatsby I knew I never liked him. He’s socially awkward and doesn’t really know how to talk to him. He’s really a boring person and is clueless that he didn't know Myrtle was having an affair with Tom. He jumped to conclusions and didn’t even consider getting more details before killing Gatsby. I hate Wilson and if he wasn’t stupid enough to trust Tom so much, he would have caught the real murderer.
- Henry Gatz: Henry Gatz is the father of Gatsby who lived in North Dakota as a farmer and is not introduced until the very end of the book, during Gatsby’s funeral. The fact that Gatsby ran away from home when he was young did not seem to bother his father since he was casing his dream. However, when he sees what Gatsby had accomplished, he is very proud of him, not knowing how he got the money and is upset by the fact he died at a very young age.
