Slavery or Holocaust

Which One is Worse the Holocaust or Slavery?

For the past week we have been learning about the
Holocaust, which was a spine-chilling time period of
history, however so was slavery. As we learn first handedly through Fredrick Douglass' autobiography the
treatment of the slaves during the 17th century.

On Wednesday during our study hall,
a question sparked an argument
between some students. Which is worse
the Holocaust or Slavery?

Slavery has been going on for centuries, it started here in the United States in 1619 and was finally abolished in 1865. Many African Americans owned and treated like animals by their masters. They were being discriminated because of their skin color and were treated less than human. Through Douglass' autobiography we experience what he and other slaves went through. Douglass explained how he was separated from his mother from a young age and how it happened to most babies born into slavery. Slavery overall was very tragic and dreadful.

The Holocaust was however a shorter duration than slavery was but equally vile. The Holocaust was also discrimination against mainly Jews, and their religious viewpoints. They were all sent to concentration camps where they were being starved, being experimented on, put into gas chamber, etc.

Both Slavery, and the Holocaust were both very cruel, immoral, and very dehumanizing. Both time periods were fulfilled with segregation, and heartbreaking events. Nonetheless to answer which was worse; Slavery or the Holocaust. Neither is worse than the other, they are equally inhumane and horrid. You can not compare the two to each other because they are both two separate horrifying periods in history.
