Lucky Star :)

Why Sealed with a kiss is 👌🏽

Most of us have seen the children’s movie Gnomeo and Juliet. The two different houses, being two different backyards, have the color red or the color blue. The blue and the red side have always hated each other and often fight when together. Although the pun in the name is clever, is this the most accurate way to depict the story for kids?
In class you may have heard something about sealed with a kiss. Sealed with a kiss is the animated seal version of the timeless story. We have the white seals against the brown seals. Even though the two movies are the same story, they’re still told pretty differently. Which kids movie is the best representative of the story?
In Gnomeo and Juliet they aren’t called the capulets and the montagues, they’re called the red hats and the bluehats where the red hats are supposed to be the capulets and the bluehats represent the montagues. In sealed with Kiss however they are called the capulets and the montagues where the white seals are the capulets and the brown seals are the montagues.
In Gnomeo and Juliet the plot is a little different than the actual story. The party is different, the death is different, the marriage is different and a few other things are different. In sealed with a kiss the story is almost the exact same, they even use some exact quotes from the book.
Both of the movies have the characters with the correct names such and Juliet and Paris, however all the characters in sealed with the kiss have the right name and there are all the characters unlike Gnomeo and Juliet. For characters such as Romeo, Capulet, Montague, friar Lawrence and a few other characters have their names changed or are completely removed from the story. Both movies seem to lack the character of Rosaline.
Sealed with a kiss seems like a more accurate version of the story but Gnomeo and Juliet is better funded so it has better graphics and it is easier to find at the library. Which do you think is the better kids take on the tale?
I think La’Myah and I both have the same favorite part of the movie. Even though it doesn’t have to do with the accuracy of the movie, sealed with a kiss has a funny sense where seal Mercutio is sitting on a rock and he is making jokes about how much Capulets suck. Here are a few of his jokes.
Mercutio: “Do you know how to save a drowning capulet? No! Good!”
Mercutio: “ What’s the difference between a slug and a capulet? One's a disgusting no good bottom feeder… the others a slug!”

P.S. (L): I’m sorry Nissi but the overall accuracy and plot was so much better than the gnomes and the soundtrack is just so gucci. The gnomes was still okay but I highly recommend sealed with a kiss. Miss rock please let us watch it :)
And from class the other day when we were discussing Tybalt tells capulet about Romeo being at the party I made a little video clip but turned it into an audio :)

  1. This is a fantastic comparison of the two depictions of the same play. I really enjoyed the bit with the Mercutio jokes. Even though the jokes seem much more kid-friendly than the jokes Mercutio tells in the play, they seem to be in line with his character. You do make a compelling argument for this movie as well.

If you bring the movie in next week, maybe I can show it to your class on Friday. :)
