1.No one falls in love at first sight anymore, it generally happens from knowing and earning trust from your partner. Romeo almost instantly fell in love with Juliet, almost immediately earning a first love kiss, which is typically not shown in modern day romance.
2.The expectation of marriages are very low nowadays, rather than getting married within a day of knowing the other person. Hence Romeo and Juliet getting married the second day at Friar Lawrence's cell. However, people now take time to plan this fragile matter of their lives, step by step, making sure no issue will occur.
3. Marriages are taken at a slower pace, thinking that the relationship is escalating faster than it should be. However, in the book, they believed that love at first sight was meant to be, and you should get married as quickly as possible.
4. People in the 21st century do not decide to get married at a very young age, considering Romeo and Juliet were married at the ages of 14 and 16. Now, it is common to get married in your mid twenties to early thirties.
5. Planning a wedding nowadays can take months to sometimes years, deliberating that it will be the best moment of their life. However, back then planning marriages did not take any longer than a few days, because they were so anxious to have a spouse for the rest of their lives.
6. Proposals are a formality nowadays, typically asking the father or guardian for permission to marry their child. However, back then, the person who is proposing, usually asked the guardian(s) if the people can get married, not making a grand scheme on how to propose.
7. There is no boundaries on who people marry, because their love is unconditional. However back then there were rivalries between families that created boundaries on who you can and cannot love, such as the Montagues and Capulets.
8. Now a days, the parents give more freedom on decisions that the child should make by themselves, and are not defined by the decisions the parents make for them. In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet is being told by her parents that she should be married to Paris, or she will be left on the streets to provide for herself, but she does not follow their command and follows her heart that belongs to Romeo.
9. People do not get into a brawl for a girl that they want to marry, they usually find a way to get over the girl and find a new love. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Paris fight for Juliet's hand in marriage because her parents give her hand to Paris but she had already ended up marrying Romeo .
10. People are not hung over a person they love/loved, after they have been rejected once to a few times. In the book, Romeo is so hung over Rosaline, that he isn't able to keep track of time. To get over her, his cousins tells him to go a party and find a new girl, to end up finding Juliet.
Excellent list, and you make really poignant comparisons between love and marriage customs during the Elizabethan era and how those customs have changed in our present time. I like the memes a lot too! :)
