The Realm of Rendarium - Creative Writing Extra Credit - Anthony Henry

Once there was an island, a lonely island located in the realm of Rendarium. To many, this was a paradise but to some this island was a place they would never want to go. In the past, several Rendarians had died in a war for peace within the four kingdoms but all the war did was make the conflict worse. The deaths of their armies caused the kings of each kingdom to get more enraged than ever before. But a prophecy stated that one day a Rendarian will stop this conflict with his mighty apprentice and The Staff of Endarius. The issue is that the Staff of Endarius is located in a deep cavern in the depths of the Earth and is guarded by a beast known as the Ravager. This beast has six legs covered in thick, oily fur. Upon its shoulders rests the head of a lion and underneath that is the body of a bear. The cave that surrounds it oozes a sticky, green natural sap that can trap a being for years, many say that it has a mid of its own but nobody lived long enough to be sure. To reach this cave one must find this mystical island within the realm of Rendarium and make their way to the center. But they must beware the  many dangers the island hold within its thick and luscious green jungles. The majority of animals on this island are extremely dangerous and venomous. One bit from any of them would cause certain death to anyone unfortunate enough to run into one of these animals.

"Zenon! Zenon! Wake up, its time for you to to get ready for Rend School!"

"C'mon mom. Let me sleep for a little longer"

"I've got your favorite, Paparian pie ready for you here on the table"

"Fine, ill be down in a minute..."

Hey, this is Zenon, I'm known as the kid who hates doing work and I'd typically skip school if I just don't feel like going. My mom says that she knows that I'm going to be someone important sometime in the near future. Recently there's been a lot of talk about this weird war going on between the four kingdoms and the school systems have changed to where everything they teach has something to do with war strategy training. To be honest, that stuff bores me way too much for me to be interested in it, I don't really understand why the kingdoms are fighting either. I feel like a better solution to this would to just make peace between each other and come up with a fair agreement but I think that's just me. A lot of the "warlords" in our class say that I look like the hero from the prophecy but I have no idea what that's supposed to mean but I'll just go with it. Many times in the past people have tried to give me a map of this place called "The Island" which is some sort of place that holds this thing called "The Staff of Endarius". But one time a person that goes by the name of Syndius came up to me and explained the whole legend of how I would go to this island and stop the war between the four kingdoms. She offered me a ship to use and her help to go find this staff and finish this conflict once and for all. After some time, I decided that I would go one week from this day at the break of dawn I would set off with Syndius and retrieve The Staff of Endarius. When that day came I was filled with the feeling of nervousness, I felt nearly sick to my stomach. Syndius was extremely exited as she knew that she would have the ability to explore a new world without worrying about wars, assignments, or the stresses she has back at her home. With a light pull we set the sails to face towards the wind and we began sailing off to the empty and soft ocean of Rendarium.

As night approached me and Syndius ended up falling asleep just at sundown as the day was filled with a lot of working to get the ship on the right track to "The Island". I remember having a strange dream that night that had some sort of glowing being talking to me. It said something about how I'm the prophet everybody was talking about and that I will be the one to end this war between the kingdoms once and for all. It also warned me about the dangers of "The Island" as it's probably good to know what your getting yourself into. After that night, I had to think about whether I should turn back or not, at that point I was risking mine and Syndius's life. Syndius said that It was completely fine and that we will be able to gain the power of the staff to stop the war. The assured me that we would not die and that we will be successful. After this conversation, I looked down at the map and I realized that we were almost there, as we got closer to "The Island", the water became darker and I could hear storms rumbling in the distance. At this point it was too late to turn back and we knew that it will be a hard journey after that time. When we were close to the island, the water was pure black and there were storms surrounding our ship but somehow the water was extremely calm. Once we hit land, we decided to find a place to sleep. From the knowledge we had from the book we've read on this island, we knew that we should never go into the jungle and we should stay on the beach to keep i\ourselves safe from the mysterious and dangerous creatures that lurk on the island. After we found a spot to settle, we placed down our sleeping bags and fell asleep. Once that happened, we woke up to a loud roar from the distance... at that point we knew we were in extreme danger. Immediately we took action and picked up our sharpened sticks. We waited silently on the beach, after a bit of time the bushes began moving around and you can see the massive fangs of the beast emerge from the leaves. (To Be Continued.)
